PARANORMAL TERMS

ANOMALY - an irregular or unusual event which does not fit a standard rule or law. An anomaly is something which cannot be explained by currently accepted scientific theories. Anything weird, abnormal, strange, odd, or difficult to classify is considered an anomaly.

APPARITION -  a supernatural manifestation of a person (dead or living), animals or objects. Ghosts are apparitions of dead people.

DEMON - an evil spirit in traditional Jewish and Christian belief.

DEMONIC HAUNTING - a demon, non-human presence attached to a human or location.

ECTOPLASM - a viscous white substance which is said to be released from the orifice of a medium and used by spirits to take on a physical form.

EMPATH -  refers to a low-level form of telepathy wherein the empath appears to be aware of the emotional state of a distant person. An empath may also be able to "broadcast" emotions to others.

ENTITY -  is also often used to refer to ghosts and other spirits.

EVP - spirit voices caught unintentionally on audio or video.

GHOST - an apparition of a deceased person.

GOLDEN ROD - a rare anomaly seen in video or in still images at the site of a suspected haunting, appearing as bright white or yellowish lines which rapidly move across a room.

HAUNTING - ghostly presence, or presences, attached to a specific location. There are 4 distinct types which include: Intelligent-responsive ; Poltergeist -child or mentally ill spirit ; Residual -repetitive or replay of an event ; and Demonic - non human.

INCUBUS - a male demonic entity said to inspire lust in women, sometimes capable of physically attacking and inflicting injuries.  The victim will always feel ill and depleted of vitality and posses an unclean feeling after an attack.

INTELLIGENT HAUNTING - a haunting in which a spiritual entity is aware of the living world and interacts with or responds to it.

INFESTATION - repetitive paranormal activity around a location or person(s).

POLTERGEIST - is a pheonomenon in which  disorder occurs without explainable cause, usually indoors and in the presence of people. Such disorder typically includes inanimate objects moving or being thrown about, erratic noises (such as knocking, pounding, or banging), and physical attacks on human beings. Poltergeists have traditionally been described as troublesome spirits or ghosts haunting a particular person, or may be caused by an individual unknowingly.

POSSESSION - when an spirit takes over a person.

PARANORMAL - designates experiences that lie outside "the range of normal  experience or scientific explanation."

RESIDUAL HAUNTING - a scene which is repeatedly played out, where the witness of such phenomenon essentially is peering into the past, where as the ghost or spirit is unaware of.
